Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Heal it right and your ink stays bold for decades. Here's the routine real artists swear by.
The first 48 hours
- Leave the initial wrap on for the time your artist tells you (usually 2–24 hours).
- Wash gently with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap. Pat dry — never rub.
- Apply a thin layer of aftercare balm or ointment. Thin is key: too much suffocates the skin.
- Keep it clean, keep it moisturized, and keep it out of the sun.
Weeks 1–3
- Moisturize 2–3 times a day as the tattoo peels and flakes. Don't pick the flakes.
- No soaking — showers only, no baths, pools, or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks.
- No direct sun on the fresh tattoo. After it's healed, sunscreen keeps the colors from fading.
