"Patrick Star" is an original design drawn in a new-school hand, and it knows exactly what it is about. It was drawn by MK Test Customer, one of the independent artists selling original work through Tattoo Art Customs.

This piece was drawn as a one-off commission, and it stays in the gallery as a portfolio example of the custom work the studio does. You cannot buy this exact drawing — it already belongs to the client it was made for — but you can request a design like it, drawn for you, through a custom order: describe what you loved about it, and an artist will draw your version. And if it is almost right — a name worked in, different flowers, the composition flipped to fit the other arm — order it as a custom variation and an artist will redraw it to your notes.

It is drawn tattoo-first rather than illustration-first: shapes are kept honest at real tattoo sizes, and the linework is planned as a stencil, not just a picture. Because the drawing is built around one strong focal point, it holds together at the sizes people actually get tattooed — and if you fall for it, it pairs naturally with a second piece down the road.

Placement: Give new school a stage — forearm, upper arm, calf, thigh, shoulder — where the character and its background burst have room to perform.

Size: Four to seven inches is the classic range: smaller and the exaggerated perspective, expressions and costume detail get lost.

How it ages: Outlines hold for the long haul; the candy brights fade first and refresh beautifully. Sunscreen delays the fade by years.
